Heartbreaking

By February 23, 2010October 27th, 2010Headfirst, Personal

It’s hard to express how grieved I am right now, upon returning from Haiti for the 2nd time this month.  While we worked to bring focus to a desperate situation, we encountered spiritual oppression, arrogance, spiritual immaturity, narcissism, division and distrust.  We had to pray constantly and be on guard against forces of confusion and critical spirits.

Praying and striving to stay focused on Christ’s provision for the people of Port-au-Prince and greater Haiti was far more difficult this time around.  In hindsight, I feel foolish to have been caught so off-guard.  Why am I surprised, after writing just last week about God’s light in the darkness being His power shining forth through us as earthen vessels, that the rest of the passage would be just as real?

We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that his life may be revealed in our mortal body.  (2 Corinthians 4:8-11)

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.  (2 Corinthians 4:16-18)

God has directed my heart to be broken with compassion for the lost, the downcast and distressed, because His heart is broken.  Even though I have stood in the midst of communities filled with broken buildings, broken spirits and broken bodies, not one of His promises has failed.  Lord, help me to see my part in Your plan for Haiti.  Anoint me to preach Christ and proclaim freedom.  Lift me up to soar on wings of eagles and renew my strength…

WOW! The Holy Spirit used what you wrote here to speak to, and encourage me in a really big way! I can totally relate, Joel 2:17 & Psalm 25. The enemy is always looking for a way to sucker punch us, or get us to drink the Koolaid. But what Satan intends for evil, God uses for good, Hebrews 12:1-11, PTL!!! I agree with your prayer and please pray “ditto” for me. (Hey the “snapshot” widget thingy connected to BG is dandy. I am going to check it out.) Hugs, Carolyn

Carolyn, so glad that I can pray this for you too. God’s encouragement always refreshes us and helps us to be aware of His living water that He promises will flow as rivers from our innermost being. (John 7:38)
